Novice White Wins in Overtime to Force a Deciding Game #3
What an exciting match-up!
Novice White was down by one game in the 3-game Pool A Championship Series against Osprey when they hit the ice Thursday night. Grand Valley started off strong with Briar scoring two quick goals in the first. Our amazing defence (Briar, Reid and Tyler R) did a fantastic job keeping the puck out of our zone, while our wingers (Autumn, Kiera, Coltan, Peyton, Kiera) played their positions well and kept the pressure on the Osprey net, and our centres (Tyler M, Curtis) played an end-to-end game.
Second period suddenly swung the other way, with Osprey taking a 4-3 lead. Our goalie Fionn stood on his head to keep us in the game for the third period. Osprey was up by only one goal, until 32 seconds left on the clock, when Tyler M scores a beauty goal to tie the game at 5-5. In our first-ever sudden death overtime, Grand Valley and Osprey both played hard through their exhaustion and continued to go back and forth for a full six minutes with several shots on both goalies. All of Novice White played their absolute best and worked hard. With the fans at the edge of their seats, Briar passed the puck up to Curtis, who puts it in the net for a game-winning goal (and the crowd went wild!).
Fionn was awarded the Champ Belt for his amazing saves and the coaches were proud of all our players for a well-played game.
Game #3 is scheduled for Monday, March 25th in Osprey. Grand Valley Novice White knows that their town is cheering them on and they will do their best to bring home the gold!
