What Is Going On Around Here?
If you have not heard, Grand Valley Minor Hockey teams are setting a
precedent year!
Our Tyke team has been improving immensely under the leadership of Doug Steele, Mike Zainia, and Lisa Deckers. If you talk to the kids, they are like 14 wins and zero losses. However, the improvement from October to now is night and day. I was able to watch a few games at a Harriston tournament where they won hands down. Coaches are not supposed to keep score, but the President did!
Our Novice White and Novice Green Teams are in a fierce battle for a spot in the championship round. The teams currently sit with 2nd and 3rd spots with a couple of games left to play. We could, potentially, see a championship and a consolation trophy being won in Grand Valley. I recommend attendance on Tuesday, March 5 as the two teams go head to head against each other.
Our Atoms have been hit with a barrage of weather delays with trying to get their games in. They currently sit 2 points out of a shot at the consolation championship round. The team has a huge game tonight against Oro. A win should relegate them to the 4th spot of the consolation championship.
Our Pee Wee team decimated all but one team in their playoff run, winning games with resounding scores and confidence. They are currently waiting for the other round-robin games to be completed. However, they have punched their ticket to the championship game.
Our Bantam team has just started their semi-finals against Coldwater. The group travelled to Coldwater last night, they came out with high tempo, the defence kept them in Coldwater’s end for most of the 1st period. The group was there with 2 full lines versus a Coldwater team of 16 skaters. The team never gave up, seeing it go back and forth on the score sheet. They headed back down Hwy 400 with a 5-4 win and a 2 point series lead. Our team can knock Coldwater into the golf course on Saturday, March 9 at 12 noon in Grand Valley.
Please watch the schedule for the upcoming games, there’s no more of a special moment than seeing the stands full cheering on the Twisters.
As we can see, we have our teams all in the thick of bringing Hardware home to the Valley. As President, I could not be more proud of the level of effort and perseverance that players bring during the playoffs, the dedication, time, and effort our coaches bring to the bench. They want this, even more, they want to see the kids standing at the blueline with a gold medal. Engrave a memory into each child that will be talked about for years.
The skill of the trainers trying to keep the players taped together and healthy. The managers who do all the hidden work that they do during playoff runs. Executive, who pull their hair out trying to find Ice times that fit without too much downtime between games. To the executive who have brought our little organization, and town, to the stage in the Georgian Bay Triangle.
Our little town, Our little organization, creating such a stir in Georgian Bay!
Bring it home Kids!
