A Letter from our President Dave Jordan
Hey Twisters!
It's been an eventful season so far, with lots of fun yet to come. It's been great to see the IP's and their improvements on the ice, as more than a few of them have literally gone from zero to 100 miles an hour... they become a handful out there pretty quick.
The Tykes have had some epic games, including against each other... and again, it's great to see our Twisters become real life hockey players. We've got a good group of talented kids that will be exciting to watch in the very near future as they continue to grow - you're going to hear some of their names in local (and hopefully not so local) rinks for years to come.
Our Atom team has had struggles and successes, but one thing I can guarantee is that the best is yet to come! They will be competing in the 'C' pool, where they will be more than competitive, and have a real solid chance at bringing home a championship. Come out and see our very own 50 goal scorer take aim at the playoffs.
And as for the Peewee squad, the boys have brought home both a 'B' tournament championship as well as taking down 5 other teams in our own home tourney to win it all. They roll 16 strong and are without question one of the most exciting teams you will see. They enter the playoffs as underdogs, the 6th seed in the 6 team 'A' pool. However, with a 13-1 record at home, the boys are ready for all comers. Stop by the rink to see the very best Peewee Local League teams in the area take the ice.
This is the time of year that can test us as hockey parents. The days are short, the nights are cold and the drives get longer... but hang in there. As the playoff intensity ramps up, so can the tempers. Please do your best to represent our community and set a good example for our kids. And when the visiting parents at the far end of the rink get a little carried away... let's try to remember that we're better than that. Let’s not stoop to their level.
I know it sounds crazy, but it'll very shortly be time to think about tryouts for rep centres... I'm going to write another letter with some thoughts and suggestions from someone who's been there and lived to tell the tale. Please take a read, I hope it'll help you make an informed decision.
Finally, thanks for continuing to come out to the rink. We (the Executive) put in countless hours in an effort to keep minor hockey going in our town, but ultimately it's you and your kids that are the lifeblood. Keep it up!
Good luck the rest of the way and I look forward to seeing you all at the rink!
Go Twisters!
Dave
