Bottle Drive Success!
It was a cold and blustery Saturday in the Valley but that didn't stop our team of volunteers (even some of the 4 legged variety) from going door to door in Grand Valley and Waldemar to ask for empty beer, wine and liquor bottles and cans for our bottle drive fundraiser!

Our Twisters were bundled up sporting their team jerseys and big smiles ready to head out for some donations!

Our volunteers spent the day shuttling truck loads (yes truck loads, we lost count how many but I think there may have been a bit of a competition between parents to see who could bring us the most truck loads!) from the community to our sorting and stacking location at the arena.

We spent time sorting the beer bottles, cans and wine and liquor bottles for return to the beer store.

Thank you to local resident Jeff for donating his trailer for the day to assist with the transportation of the empties!  We filled that trailer to the roof!

We had many local residents bring us their empties at the arena location and we enjoyed hearing of your experiences with Grand Valley minor hockey over the years, thank you for taking the time to bring us your donations and for sharing your stories!

Thank you also to those residents who made cash donations in lieu of empties, your generosity is amazing and we thank you for supporting GVDMH!

Once the trailer was full we had to relocate to finish sorting and stacking more empties!  Going to take a bit to get all of these loaded and returned to the beer store!

We should have a grand total of these efforts in the next week or so when they are returned.

Erin Auto Recyclers is a family run business that has been operating since 1958. Owned and operated by Rob Smith, Elayne McSkimming & their 2 sons, Erin Auto Recyclers along with their employees work hard to ensure that vehicles are recycled properly. Erin Auto Recyclers are proud to be recognized by the Clean Air Foundation as the first in Canada to recover mercury switches from ABS breaking assemblies. Recovering ABS assemblies along with convenience lighting switches is an important achievement because such assemblies often contain three mercury switches that together contain over 2.5 grams of mercury, a harmful neurotoxin. These assemblies can also take more time to find and remove from end of life vehicles than other switches, proving that Erin Auto Recyclers is dedicated to their company mission of continuously moving forward and improving upon everything that affects the environment and quality of life.
