Submitted By christinetaylor on Thursday, December 1, 2016
The big day is almost here!!!

The first annual Hockey Day in Grand Valley is this Saturday December 3rd from 11am to 4pm at the Grand Valley Community Center!

Stop by for a fun filled day of local league hockey and small town spirit!  All are welcome to come out and enjoy some great local league hockey in our community!

We have been working hard at planning a great event for months and the big day is almost here!  Here is a breakdown of what is happening the day of:

UPSTAIRS:

Food Booth: Katered by Kelly of Grand Valley has provided us with homemade chili which we will be selling with a bun for lunch.  We will also be selling pizza provided by Olympic Pizza of Grand Valley as well as milk, bottled water provided by Grand Valley Foodtown, coffee, and snacks in the upstairs banquet room.

Raffle Table: We have over $2500 worth of raffle prize donations to choose from!  Buy a sheet of tickets for $20.00 for your chance to drop 25 tickets into the prize of your choice!  Put all your tickets in for one item or spread it out, it's up to you!  The raffle tables have toys, Leafs tickets, gift cards, home decor items, gift baskets etc. all donated by local businesses or families in the community!  THANK YOU!

Out of town guests or those who may not be there for the raffle draws at the end of the day will be contacted to collect their raffle prize.

Puck Toss: $5.00 gets you a numbered puck that you can hurl towards center ice for your chance to win Barrie Colts tickets, a signed Mark Giordano Calgary Flames jersey (youth size), or a $25.00 iTunes gift card.  Puck toss will take place on the ice at 3pm.

MAIN LOBBY:

Food and Toy Drive: We will be collecting non perishable food items for CONCERN food bank in Grand Valley and/or new unwrapped toys for the OPP Toys for Tots Dufferin County toy drive.  Help us to "Fill the Net" in the main lobby to help brighten someone's Christmas this year!

Twister Cheer Gear: We will be selling our Twister mitts ($10), scarves ($10) , pennants ($5.00) and Twister mini sticks ($15) in the front lobby. These make great gifts for Grandparents, Parents, and players for the holidays!

Door/Gate Fees: Our Hockey Day in Grand Valley door and gate fees have been sponsored by Arthur's Fuel of Grand Valley and Grand Valley Home Hardware.  Your admission is FREE all day thanks to these generous sponsors!

ON ICE:

Puck Drop: We will have a ceremonial puck drop with community representatives, players names will be announced during the warm up and goals/assists will be mentioned over the loudspeaker!  Listen for our very own Bob Cole (President Dave Jordan) during the games and be sure to cheer for your favorite player/team!

All of our 6 minor hockey teams will be on the ice on Saturday either taking on each other or teams from Shelburne, Collingwood and Georgian Shores.

Volunteers Needed:  Awesome events like this don't happen without lots of helpers, if you are interested in helping in any capacity for some or all of the day please add your name to the signup sheet in the lobby of the arena on the Twisters board.

Listen for our announcement on Country 105 Radio station and visit our face book page ( https://www.facebook.com/events/1108402889194988/to find out more about this great local event!

All proceeds from this event will support GVDMH organization and help to offset the increasing cost of ice times, coach and staff training, equipment, and other organization costs not covered by registration fees.  Thank you for your support!

Go Twisters!!
