Thankful
We are now over a week into our season and anyone who has been up at the arena will agree that the mood is electric! Each time I walk in the doors, I am struck with the overall atmosphere of a happy hockey community, happy families, and most importantly - happy players. Given the nature of this Thanksgiving holiday, I decided to take a moment to dwell on this feeling of goodwill that I sense happening all around GVMH.
Our kids have not only more ice times than most other centres, but they are better ice times too. I don't care how Canadian it is to have 6am practices - I'm glad we don't have to do it! We have a new development program in place that is already going strong. Anyone who was at the clinic last Friday and saw the way that Goalie Instructor Kevin Stone was helping our goalies will definitely agree! We have a full executive, and almost full bench staffs for each and every team, (we still need a couple of trainers, if anyone is interested). Our girls development team has 22 players, 20 of whom are new members of GVMH! Our Atom Rep team won their very first game last week, and, last but not least - we have a rockin' dance coming up on November 1st!
So on this Thanksgiving Monday, what am I thankful for? I am thankful that I live in a community with enough giving, supportive parents to band together to provide our kids with hockey in our home community. Not everyone has the time to volunteer, but each and every parent provides support in his/her own way. I am thankful for the amazing group of kids that we have in Grand Valley Minor Hockey. I am constantly astounded by the kindness, positive attitude, and sportsmanship that I see them display. Lastly, I am thankful for small town hockey, because you know that if you live in any small town with hockey - that small town also has a heart.
