The Grand Valley Harvesters Novice Select team won their
Winter Fest Tournament in Stoney Creek. They went undefeated over 6 games and
brought home the banner!
3 days, 6 games, 42 goals for, 9 against, and 12 kids who gave it their all = 1 incredible small town success story!
The Harvesters arrived in Stoney Creek as the underdogs playing novice select teams from much larger centres, but quickly dispelled that notion in their first game with a 7-2 dispatching of the mighty Guelph Junior Gryphons.
The Harvesters continued strong in round robin play defeating Pickering 7-0 and Ajax 12-0. In the elimination round, The Harvesters faced off against Kingston and came out on top with a 7-0 victory.
Sunday morning, in the semi-finals, the Harvesters faced off again against Guelph, who were eager to exact revenge, and came out on top with a hard-fought 4-3 win against a group of Gryphons who had clearly done their homework in the video review room.
Sunday afternoon was the championship game vs. the highly touted Oakville Rangers. For the first time in the tournament, the Harvesters found themselves down 2-0 early in the game, but they fought back with grit, determination, and effort. When the 3rd-period buzzer sounded, the Harvesters came out victorious with a 5-4 win!
The coaches and parents are so proud of these 12 kids who gave it their all over the weekend – truly a total team effort.
The Harvesters represented Grand Valley with class, skill, speed, and hard work – the big city teams know where, and who, Grand Valley is now!
